Breaking Millwall News, Transfers and Interviews
By Laura Pidduck An extraordinary number of Lana€™s fans classify themselves as LGBT and the obvious question is why is this? I€™ve discussed this very topic with a few fellow Evil Regals and one of my favourite responses was when a friend jokingly insisted that it€™s because Lana is so gorgeous she instantly €˜turns€™ all her female fans gay. Even though we all know how devastatingly beautiful Lana is, the real answer obviously runs much deeper than that. So here€™s why I think Lana is so popular within this community. Firstly, for many of us, the first time we saw (and fell in love with) Lana was watching Once Upon a Time. At the heart of this show full of fairytale retellings is a message of love, hope and overcoming adversity. For those of us struggling through dark times in our lives, Regina€™s story of redemption reminds us that there is light at the end of the tunnel. We have been with Regina on every step of her journey from the innocent girl who was moulded and manipulated, to the dark and isolated Evil Queen, and now to the hero surrounded by love and family. She€™s finally €˜at home in the world€™ and is choosing how she wants to live and who she wants to be. It€™s not difficult to see why her character is so inspiring to those having issues with identity and acceptance. For fans of Lana that had the luck to discover her talent earlier, many of her previous roles have provided equally strong examples of love and acceptance. Consider Trina Decker for insistence; a woman who is, in her own way, living and fully embracing an alternate life style. Trina is strong, self-confident and incredibly loving, all of which are hugely admirable traits. I, personally, would love to be a bit more like Trina. Yet, despite all of this, to me the most important reason that such a large proportion of Lana€™s fans are LGBT, is because of her real life support of the community. From her NoH8 campaign, her championing of films such as Whispers of Life and Limina and her speech at the 2012 HRC gala (which I have watched countless times and encourage everyone else to do the same), Lana as shown time and time again that she is a true ally for us all. We€™ve all witnessed how big Lana€™s heart is and we€™re blessed because her love extends to us all, no matter our gender, sexuality or the sexual orientation of the couples we €˜ship€™. Lana practices what she preaches and her fanbase reflects that. (function(d, s, id) var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s); if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); (document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); We were fortunate to have our friend and supporter, Lana Parrilla, attend the "Whispers of Life" private screening event last weekend. We accept it. In much the same way, we must apply this childlike innocence and acceptance to our family and friends, irrespective of their sexual orientation.€ €“ Lana Parrilla.
