Darren Ward

Born: 13/09/1978

Postion: Defender

Squad number: 18

Profile: Born in Harrow, Ward's senior career began at nearby Watford, until Millwall signed him for £500,000 in 2001.

He has formed some formidable central defensive partnerships during his three separate stints at The Den, not least alongside skipper Paul Robinson during the Lions' return to the Championship in the 2010-11 season.

Ward made 144 appearances in his first stint at Millwall, forming part of the defence that helped the Lions reach the FA Cup final in 2004. He moved to South Norwood to join rivals Crystal Palace for £1.1 million in 2005.

After making 64 appearances for Palace under Iain Dowie, Ward joined Wolves in 2007 but struggled to break into the first team and was loaned out to Watford, Charlton and then Millwall.

He then moved permanently back to Millwall  in 2010 and has made a further 70 appearances since, scoring twice – one coming against former employers Charlton in a 4-0 drubbing.

In August 2012, Ward joined Swindon Town on loan until January with a view to a permanent move.
