Millwall made to sweat as West Brom consider Wood bid

MILLWALL are still waiting to hear whether their £1million bid for Chris Wood has been accepted by West Brom – a week after they made it.

The Baggies are yet to respond to the Lions' offer for the New Zealand international and may not do so until they finalise their own plans for the January transfer window.

The Midlands club want assurances from Chelsea that Romelu Lukaku will not be recalled from his loan spell, whilst talisman Shane Long has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the New Year.

West Brom also expect to lose Nigerian international Peter Odemwingie when the African Cup of Nations begins in January and will want to ensure selling Wood does not leave them short of cover.

A source has confirmed that the Premier League club have intimated that the 20-year-old is for sale, but there is no set asking price on his head and they will not make a rash decision on his future.

Wood's contract at the Hawthorns includes a one-year option that can be triggered at any time and, historically, West Brom have tended to exercise that right to safeguard the value of their players.

Kenny Jackett will not hesitate in moving onto other targets with Nottingham Forest striker David McGoldrick, who has scored 13 goals on loan at Coventry City this season, one possible alternative.

But the Millwall boss remains hopeful a deal can be struck for Wood and the player is keen to stay at The Den beyond the end of his loan spell, which expires on January 1.
