Wood scores for New Zealand as Forde handed Ireland start

MILLWALL loanee Chris Wood scored for New Zealand against China in a friendly in Shanghai on Wednesday afternoon.

The striker headed in Michael McGlinchey's cross to draw the All Whites level on the stroke of half-time at the Hongkou Football Stadium, before being substituted after 69 minutes.

On Tuesday, Tottenham youngster Adam Smith, who has joined the Lions for three-months from Tottenham, played an hour for England's U21 side in their 1-0 win over Northern Ireland.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper David Forde will make only his second start for the Republic of Ireland tonight after being drafted into the side to face Greece, replacing injured first-choice Keiren Westwood.

Striker Andy Keogh is set to be named among Giovanni Trapattoni's substitutes for the game at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin after being called into the squad at late notice.
