ADAM Smith revealed he barely knew the names of his new teammates during his Millwall debut at Nottingham Forest.

Smith was thrown straight into Kenny Jackett's starting line-up at the City Ground just 48 hours after his loan move from Tottenham was confirmed.

But while the 21-year-old said it had been tough fitting into his new surroundings on the eve of a big game, he was delighted to begin his Lions career with a victory.

"It's weird coming into a new team," he said. "I had only trained with them once. It was hard to learn all of the players' names, how they play and how the manager wants me to play.

"To come to Forest, where they've got great support and a lot of big names in their team, and win is fantastic.

"I could tell straight away that the team vhealth portal spirit is really good. All the lads stick together. It's a great buzz for us after this win."

Speaking after the match, assistant boss Joe Gallen praised Smith for making an impact so soon after joining the club.

"It's tough for someone to come in like that," he said. "Adam is still a little bit out of it when it comes to banter with the other players.

"I thought he played well in the first-half and was very, very good in the second-half. He really came on strong and showed his qualities.

"He's at Tottenham and he's been a regular for the England U21s in their last few games – those are signs of a decent player coming through.

"But it's only one game and let's see what he can do and if he can find some consistency in the next few games."
