Millwall hoping to sign Spurs defender ahead of Forest clash

KENNY Jackett is scouring the loan market for a right-back ahead of Millwall's match at Nottingham Forest on Saturday – with Tottenham's Adam Smith earmarked as his top target.

Jackett is keen to ensure he has adequate cover at The City Ground with Alan Dunne suspended and Jack Smith injured, and is hoping Smith will be given the green light to make the short switch across London before the weekend.

The 21-year-old has been included in André Villas-Boas' squad for a League Cup tie against Norwich City on Wednesday evening but the move will almost certainly be sanctioned if Tottenham are knocked out.

The situation is less clear if they were to win, as Smith has featured regularly in cup competitions this year, but Millwall are confident of beating off competition from Birmingham to land him.

NewsAtDen understands the Blues have also made an approach for the England U21 international but Smith wants to stay in the capital.

This would not be the first time Jackett has tried to sign Smith after failing with an approach last January, when the former Bournemouth and MK Dons loanee opted to join Leeds United on a temporary basis instead.

would be good if we got him on loan as if he plays well and enjoys it the deal could be made permanent and we'd finally be rid of alan dunne! He has no chance in spurs first team with the likes of walker their, so hopefully we get him down the den...
