MILLWALL utility man Tamika Mkandawire could join Southend United on loan later this week – but only if he can prove his fitness first.
The Shrimpers have enquired about the 29-year-old and Lions boss Kenny Jackett is prepared to give the move his blessing providing Mkandawire recovers from a slight knock.
The defensive midfielder is carrying an injury picked up in training and has missed U21 fixtures against Bristol City and Charlton in the last ten days, but he will be assesed further over the next 48 hours.
Blues boss Paul Sturrock hinted at the deal when speaking to the Southend Echo earlier: "The deal has been agreed, but it won’t be done until we are happy he is over his injury.
"He will report for training on Thursday so we can assess his fitness but I still think we need another player as well as him."
Mkandawire has not played competitively for Millwall in nearly a year after undergoing knee surgery last November.
