MASON Bennett could make his Millwall debut against West Bromwich Albion next Sunday.
Bennett, 23, signed on loan for the Lions last Thursday from Derby but hasn’t played a competitive senior game since November when he picked up an ankle injury.
Ryan Leonard, who has been out since October with a knee injury, has stepped up his recovery in training.
Rowett feels Leonard’s style will be a boost, particularly in games like Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Sheffield Wednesday, and with the squad needing an injection of energy following an intense fixture schedule.
And Bennett will give the Lions another attacking threat.
“He’s only trained a couple of times at Derby and a couple of times with us,” Rowett said. “I think he will need at last another week’s training, leading up to the West Brom game.
“We had Mason Bennett and Ryan Leonard both training [Friday]. I think when you look at the game [Saturday] those types of players would give us something different.
“We have a really small squad, I think the smallest in the Championship. That energy has been stretched over a period of time and now they have come to the end of that cycle.
“We have to go again and Lenny has got bags of energy in midfield. Mason could give us a little bit of what Sheffield Wednesday’s wingers gave them just in fleeting moments when that little bit of pace was needed to take someone on and open the game up.
“I’m looking forward to seeing them, both players are going to need at least a week’s training. We will have to see if they are available for the West Brom game. We will make that call as we go.”
