GARY Rowett has told James Brown and Billy Mitchell: Be ready if you’re needed.
Brown, 21, has yet to make a league appearance for Millwall but would be the likely option were Mahlon Romeo to be out through injury or suspension.
Mitchell, 18, made his league debut on the last day of last season at Wigan and also played in the second round of the EFL Cup at Oxford in August.
Mitchell was close to a start at Swansea before Ben Thompson made a late dash from hospital where his partner had given birth.
Brown and Mitchell have both been on the first-team bench for league games this season.
“At the moment Brownie is the only other player that can play right-back, really, unless you play players out of position. So he has to be ready and available,” Rowett said.
“And Billy Mitchell would have played against Swansea if Thommo hadn’t made it.
“They’ve been training well. The team’s playing sufficiently well enough at the moment for them to stay out of the team.
“They’re young players and they’re good players and have been training with the first team all the time. The plan is if they’re needed they either get into the team through default or they get into the team because they’ve been performing so well and they team’s not been performing well.
“It’s as simple as that. They’ve been around the first team and they’ll continue to be around it.”
