MILLWALL are trying to sign a goalkeeper ahead of their Championship clash with West Brom at the Hawthorns this Saturday.
Speaking on Monday at the open training session at The Den, Lions boss Neil Harris ruled Frank Fielding out of the fixture. Millwall were going to discover on Tuesday how bad the damage is to his quad after he limped off on his debut against Preston at the weekend.
Bart Bialkowski (above) will start in goal against Slaven Bilic’s side, and Harris would prefer not to involve Ryan Sandford in his first-team squad with the 20-year-old yet to make a senior competitive appearance.
The transfer deadline is this Thursday at 5pm but free agents can move after that time. Millwall could also arrange an emergency loan after the deadline.
“[Fielding] is not going to be available at the weekend but until we get the scan results back [Tuesday] we’re not going to know how severe the damage is to his quad,” Harris said.
“We brought Frank and Bart in, two excellent, experienced goalkeepers,” Harris said. “At this level you just can’t rush your youngsters. If we involved Ryan this weekend in a match-day squad then we’re rushing him.
“It’s the same with Billy Mitchell, George Alexander, Harry Ransom, Tyler Burey, Junior Tiensia and the rest of the under-23s. They need time to develop and then you blood them when you think it’s right.
“Ideally Ryan wouldn’t be involved at this stage. I’d have no qualms with including him in the squad because he’s a professional lad, he’s a good boy and he’s got real potential to be a good keeper.”
