MILLWALL made an unsuccessful attempt to sign Southampton defender Dan Seaborne on loan last week, NewsAtDen can reveal.
The Lions could not agree financial terms with the Saints for the 25-year-old and snapped up Sheffield Wednesday centre-back Mark Beevers instead.
Southampton wanted Seaborne's wages to be paid in full but boss Kenny Jackett felt he could find better value elsewhere – and Beevers' impressive debut against Bolton on Saturday would appear to confirm that he did just that.
Jackett enquired about Seaborne during the summer but opted to re-sign Danny Shittu instead – though Millwall have been consistently linked with the former Exeter City trainee ever since.
Seaborne, who made his debut for Southampton in a 1-1 draw at The Den in January 2010, reappeared on the Lions' radar last week when it was confirmed that captain Paul Robinson would be out for longer than expected.
Ironicaly, it is possible that Millwall first became interested in Beevers whilst scouting Seaborne, with assistant boss Joe Gallen watching both players in action in a League Cup tie in September.
