NEW signing Matt Smith will wear the number 10 jersey next season – the shirt previously worn by Fred Onyedinma.
Centre-forward Smith reported for his first day of duty with the Lions on Tuesday following his switch from Queens Park Rangers.
Smith is a target man that Millwall have monitored for some time, and he is the first piece in the attacking jigsaw this summer.
Onyedinma’s time at the club is almost certainly up, with the attacker not given a squad number this pre-season.
Harris gave Onyedinma his debut as a 17-year-old in January 2017, but their association is coming to an end.
“Fred hasn’t got a squad number at the moment with us. Fred’s happy with that, he wants to leave the club and will be moving on over the course of the summer when the right opportunity comes along for him,” Harris said.
“Fred’s been great, he trains every day with us and it’s fine. He doesn’t want to play for the club, so Fred naturally won’t have a squad number and will move on.
“It’s quite easy with Fred, we get on very well, he’s a great lad. Ultimately Fred wants pastures new and something different.
“He’s been top drawer, I can’t speak highly enough of him.
“At the moment he doesn’t want to play for us, he wants to go elsewhere and when that happens that’s fine, we’ll facilitate that.
“I’ve always been honest with things like that. I’ve had it in the past with players wanting to move elsewhere, and so be it.
“Fred is in that scenario and made it clear last season – hence why I didn’t use him.
“We’ll cross that bridge over the summer when it happens.”
