Midfielder should be recovered from 'nasty' injury in time for Millwall pre-season

MILLWALL are “90 per cent confident” Ben Thompson will be recovered from a “nasty” hamstring injury in time for the start of pre-season.

Thompson tore his hamstring against Brentford on April 19 and missed the rest of the campaign.

Thompson, 23, was one of the Lions’ key players in the second half of the season, scoring four goals and offering versatility as Harris switched to a three-man midfield.

“We are hoping,” Harris said. “Thommo's timing was obviously unfortunate in the sense of, he has come back from Pompey, been absolutely outstanding for a six-week period and was key to the way we were playing and that was a real shame.

“It was a real nasty hamstring injury. We are 90 per cent confident that he will be on the start line for pre-season with everyone else.

“We have to make sure he gets that pre-season under his belt. We will have to be careful because it seems like a bad tear, but that probably comes with the fact that Ben played a lot more football this season than any other season: Going out on loan then coming back and a run of games in a short space of time and the intensity of the games at Portsmouth and Millwall.

“The tempo he was playing at probably led to the hamstring injury, but we do expect him to be back for pre-season.”
