SID Nelson returned from injury to help Tranmere Rovers to a 1-1 draw at home to Bury on Tuesday night.
Nelson, 23, played in the centre of defence for Rovers, who still had hopes of automatic promotion from League Two.
James Norwood fired Tranmere ahead, but Danny Mayor's strike for the Shakers secured them automatic promotion back to League One.
Nelson had gone off in the previous game against Lincoln with a shoulder injury, but now looks set to play a central role in the play-offs.
Heading into what is set to be a dramatic last day, Rovers and Forest Green are currently the only sides guaranteed to be in the last-four shoot-out.
Third-place Mansfield and fourth-place MK Dons play each other to decide the last automatic promotion place.
Below Tranmere, who are sixth, Newport, Exeter, Colchester, Carlisle and Stevenage could all finish seventh and claim the last play-off spot.
