DANNY Shittu says proving a point to Owen Coyle made Millwall's win over Bolton on Saturday even sweeter.

Shittu, who made just 12 appearances for the Trotters between 2008 and 2010, believes he was not given a fair crack of the whip by Coyle following the Scot's appointment at the Reebok Stadium.

"It was personal," the defender told Sky Sports News. "It did mean an extra little thing to me because of me being at Bolton under Owen's reign.

"He's a great manager and everything, but personally I didn't feel he gave me the chance and the opportunity and I think that maybe was the first game where he's actually seen me play.

"So for me to play against him and beat his team, I was not happy for their supporters and their players because they're all great.

"But for me to get one up on Owen meant a lot because I've had to work hard since to do what I need to do in football to be playing again."
