Behind Enemy Lines: West Bromwich Albion

MILLWALL host West Brom this Saturday with the two sides chasing different goals.

The Baggies are almost certain to be one of the sides in the play-offs, and still have a chance of going up automatically.

The Lions are in a relegation battle with eight games left this season.

Millwall lost 2-0 to West Brom at The Hawthorns last September with the Baggies goals from Dwight Gayle and Kieran Gibbs.

Why do you support West Brom?

I was born four miles from the Hawthorns and every generation of my family have been and are West Brom fans.

What’s been your favourite season following the Baggies?

The 1978 season under Ron Atkinson with Lurie Cunningham, Cyrille Regis was unbelievable. It was ground-breaking on and off the pitch.

We got to the quarter-finals of the Uefa Cup before losing to eventual finalists Red Star Belgrade.

We also finished third in the First Division.

And the worst?

In 1989-90 we were relegated to the third tier (Thank God for Italia 90).

What were your thoughts on Darren Moore’s sacking?

I think it’s a heart-and-head thing for most West Brom fans.

I was genuinely pleased that Moore was given the chance but when the home form dipped after Christmas and we lost to teams around us something had to give.

What are your expectations for the rest of the season?

My son still thinks we’ll go on an amazing run and get automatic promotion. I’ll go with that.

The Lions are of course battling to stay in the division – do you expect them to avoid the drop?

Ipswich and Bolton will go and Rotherham and Wigan have a tough run-in. You’ll be fine.

The fixture at The Hawthorns was relatively comfortable for the hosts – how much of a different challenge are you expecting at The Den?

I was at the home fixture and actually Milwall looked okay until the last 20 minutes.

2,500 Lions fans made it a decent atmosphere on the day.

Which of the Baggies’ players will the Lions need to pay most attention to?

It’s obvious but Dwight Gayle (17 goals; two assists) and Jay Rodriguez (19 goals; five assists) are a class above the division.

But midfielder Rekeem Harper and Kyle Edwards, a forward, are two academy players that are really starting to shine.

Likewise, which Millwall players are you worried about facing?

Jake Cooper 8ft 3ins and knows where the back of the net is – six goals and seven assists this season.

What are your thoughts on Neil Harris?

He strikes me as a good man who suits the club – I reckon you’re in good hands.

If you could sign one of his players, who would it be and why?

I’m going for Steve Morrison, he’s moody and a bit old school.

But my lad says Jed Wallace.

What’s your predicted West Brom starting XI and formation?

I think we’ll keep the same line-up that beat Birmingham City 3-2 with maybe young Rakeem Harper coming in for the injured James Morrison.

4-3-3

Johnstone; Holgate, Dawson, Hegazi, Townsend; Brunt, Livermore, Harper; Edwards, Rodriguez, Gayle.

Will you be at The Den on Saturday?

We’ve sold out our allocation, but unfortunately I won’t be there.

Finally, what’s your score prediction?

Millwall 1-3 West Brom.
