STEVE Bruce admitted his surprise that the referee decided on a home kit for his side at The Den – a move that caused a colour clash in the 0-0 draw between Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday.
Bruce joked the close resemblance of the jerseys was one reason for the low quality of passing as the 0-0 draw was the first in 39 games between the clubs since December 1947.
"We had a yellow kit with us, you better go and ask the referee," Bruce said. "It’s got a stripe down the sleeve. I would have thought that would have been better for everyone, wouldn’t you? It’s got nowt to do with us, that one I’m not guilty of.
"It was the ref’s call. We were bamboozled at four o’clock when we got the phone call and were told the referee [Tim Robinson] had chosen blue and white.
"I always thought they played in dark blue, so you better get the ref in here and question him. It was certainly a strange decision but there you go."
