Millwall striker could require summer surgery

TOM Elliott could return to full training this week as he continues his recovery from a dislocated shoulder.

Striker Elliott may require surgery next summer.

Millwall are hoping Elliott could be available this month in an intense schedule that sees Neil Harris’ side play six games in 18 days.

The Lions travel to Swansea on Saturday.

“He won’t be back this weekend, but there’s an outside chance he’ll be back in training, possibly towards the end of the week,” Harris said. “He’s doing really well.

“We tried to bring a centre-forward in because Tom dislocated his shoulder and you don’t know what the long-term prognosis is going to be. There will be an operation at some stage but we can put that off until the end of the season.

“Seven, eight times out of 10 you can delay an op and do it in the closed season, or it just heals itself and you don’t need one. Or you take the risk and it goes again. So that’s why we wanted a forward in January.

“Tom’s progressing really well. One thing he’s certainly got is the desire to get back out on the training pitch, he’s really pushing. He feels great but you can’t recreate with the physios what you get on the football pitch or in non-contact training.

“We have to be really sure to give him every opportunity to be fit and to stay fit. This weekend will be too soon and after that we’ll take it every couple of days.”
