FA Cup cash boosts Millwall in transfer window

SHANE Ferguson’s late double earned Millwall £135,000 prize money by beating Hull in the third round of the FA Cup – with Neil Harris admitting that cash boost is important during the January transfer window.

The Lions went through to the fourth round for a third consecutive season for the first time since 2004 and drew Everton at The Den in the last 32.

If Millwall defeat the Toffees later this month then they will earn another £180,000. That’s before gate receipts – with The Den likely to be close to a sell-out – and TV revenue.

Harris made just two changes to his startling XI from the previous league game at Ipswich Town for the third-round tie, compared to eight for Hull.

“That’s the dilemma us managers face, changes or continuity in team selection,” Harris said. “The players have been playing well, they’ve been building combinations and relationships on the pitch and it was an opportunity not to make too many changes.

“What we have to remember as well is prize money from this round, it’s a lot of money for us.

“The TV money, the prize money from the round, that’s important for us moving forward trying to sign a player in the transfer window.”
