MILLWALL are aiming for successive Championship wins for just the second time this season when they face Nottingham Forest in their last game of 2018.
Since the Lions defeated Wigan and Ipswich Town at The Den in October they have won just once in nine games, Boxing Day’s 1-0 victory over Reading (above).
With a return fixture against the Tractor Boys on New Year’s Day to consider, Millwall boss Neil Harris could make changes to his side.
Aiden O’Brien and Steve Morison are the two likeliest options to start if Harris decides to rest players.
After just two defeats in their first 20 games when they were fifth in the table, Forest boss Aitor Karanka has reportedly come under pressure after two losses and two draws in their last four fixtures.
That downturn in form has coincided with former Lions striker Lewis Grabban’s dry spell after he had scored 14 goals in the previous 13 games.
Forest were 3-0 up after 74 minutes against Norwich at Carrow Road on Boxing Day, before they conceded twice in injury-time in a 3-3 draw.
Matty Cash, who scored twice in that game, says the players are backing the manager.
“Yes, we are right behind the boss, definitely. He is a fantastic manager, there is no doubt about that,” Cash stressed.
“We are all playing for the manager, playing for the club and playing for the badge. There is no question about that.
“We have a fantastic team and we know it. We have a great team that can do well and go on to win promotion.
“It is a tight league, as you can see and, yes, we are disappointed with [the Norwich] result. But we will go to Millwall and put it right.”
Possible Millwall starting XI:
4-4-2: Archer; Romeo, Hutchinson, Cooper, Meredith; J Wallace, Leonard, Tunnicliffe, Ferguson; Gregory, Elliott.
Millwall 8/5 Draw 11/5 Forest 17/10
This season’s meeting:
Nottingham Forest 2-2 Millwall (Lolley 27', Antunes Carvalho, 70'; Williams, 75', Gregory, 91’).
