BEN Thompson scored his second goal of the season to seal a 3-1 win over Sunderland and keep Portsmouth four points clear of Luton at the top of League One going into Christmas.
Thompson’s 63rd-minute shot deflected in to stretch their lead over Sunderland in third place to eight points.
Fred Onyedinma was also on the mark on Saturday, scoring past Millwall team-mate Tom King, but it was only an injury-time consolation in Wycombe’s surprise 2-1 defeat at home to AFC Wimbledon.
It was King’s first league start since September as he helped the Dons to a first away league win in eight games.
AFC Wimbledon stay bottom, and Wycombe remain in ninth.
In League Two, Sid Nelson helped Swindon to a clean sheet at home to Cheltenham. The Robins are 13th, five points off the play-offs.
🗳 Five minutes to go on our Social Man of the Match vote from yesterday’s win over Sunderland and Ronan Curtis and Ben Thompson are level pegging, each with 44% of the vote!#Pompey https://t.co/4bUThLHwbo

Other than Matt Clarke, Ben Thompson is the best player to pull on a Portsmouth shirt in the last 7 years ish.
