Gallen: Millwall need to "get fans going" during Bolton clash

JOE Gallen has called on Millwall to inspire The Den with a no-nonsense performance against Bolton on Saturday.

Gallen believes the Lions have benefited from returning to their core values in recent away matches against Burnley and Bristol City – both of which they drew.

"Maybe we've not been as expansive and as pretty on the ball, but I think that's what you've got to do at Millwall," said the Lions assistant boss.

"The crowd like that style of play and can get behind that. They want to see commitment, passion and some tackles. That's what we need to do to get them going.

"We need a win at home because our fans have been starved of home wins going back to the end of last year."

Bolton emerged victorious on their last visit to SE16 – a 2-0 win in the fifth round of the FA Cup in February – but Gallen is expecting a different test this time around.

He said: "It will be a very different game to last year, but equally difficult. We've been solid in the last few games and it's been pleasing to see us play that way.

"There's no doubt we've been concentrating the team a bit more in terms of closing people down, getting  tackles in, blocking crosses – all the things you talk about on the training ground and before matches.

"In the dressing room we tell the players we only want to be conceding zeroes and ones, and it was one against Bristol City so that's some form of progress.

"On the ball we feel we have enough ability to create and score some goals, but we need to focus on our work off the ball."
