Millwall's O'Brien in lone striker role for Ireland

AIDEN O'Brien played up front as the Republic of Ireland drew 0-0 in Denmark on Monday night.

O'Brien was the lone striker in a defensive 5-4-1 formation. Martin O'Neill's side showed little ambition despite already being relegated to League C of the Nations League

O'Brien, 25, was often left isolated in the 65 minutes he was on the pitch, before he was substituted for Portsmouth's Ronan Curtis. Ireland haven't scored in 400 minutes.

Shaun Williams was on the bench.

Jiri Skalak was an unused substitute in Czech Republic's 1-0 win at home to Slovakia also on Monday.

On Sunday night, Conor McLaughlin and Shane Ferguson were on the bench as Northern Ireland lost 2-1 at home to Austria to finish bottom of Group B3.
