BEN Thompson scored his first goal for Portsmouth at the weekend – and compared the provider of it to Jed Wallace.
Thompson scored from Ronan Curtis’ cross in the first round of the FA Cup on Saturday in a 4-0 win at Maidenhead United.
“I’ve played with Jed Wallace and he’s like that, he thrives off confidence. Gets the ball, loses it, he doesn’t care, he’ll just go and get it again and do what he wants with the ball and make things happen,” Thompson said.
“That's why Jed’s such a good player and turning out in the Championship. “He’s a great player and bits of Ronan remind me of Jed, so he needs to keep working hard and hopefully can be up there with him.”
Wycombe Wanderers are out of the competition. Fred Onyedinma played the full game for the Chairboys in their 2-0 defeat away to Luton.
AFC Wimbledon broke Isthmian League Premier Division side Harringey Borough’s hearts with a last-minute winner from Mitchell Pinnock to advance to the second round. Tom King was on the bench for the Dons, who announced this morning that their boss Neal Ardley has left the club by mutual agreement.
It was a remarkably similar story for Swindon Town. The League Two side are through after a 2-1 win at home to York. Sid Nelson played in the centre of defence for the Robins, who despite that result sacked manager Phil Brown on Monday.
