QPR boss McLaren after former Millwall forward Eze downs Lions: 'I'm glad we've got him'

STEVE McLaren hinted at his surprise that Millwall released Ebere Eze – after the forward starred against his former side at Loftus Road on Wednesday night.

Eze – who left Millwall without earning a professional deal in the summer of 2016 – was a consistent threat against the Lions and scored the second goal in the 2-0 win.

McLaren thought he also should have been awarded a penalty in the second half, when he was instead booked for diving after going down under Jake Cooper's challenge.

"I watched him a lot last season and how anyone can let him go…there will be reasons for that, I don't know," McLaren said.

"I'm just so glad we've got him. He's a talent that can get better. We need to add discipline to his game and work rate. He's showing that and he's getting the rewards in the performances.

"He was similar against Bolton. He's a talented player, but talent is nothing, you've got to work hard. We've told him that, you've got to be disciplined and do a job for the team.

"I thought he was excellent."
