MILLWALL chief executive Andy Ambler says he is hopeful that Jimmy Abdou will sign a new contract by the end of next week.
The midfielder's agent flew in from France to open negotiations last Tuesday and Ambler said initial talks progressed smoothly.
Abdou's current deal expires next summer and news of his contract extension will come as a major boost to boss Kenny Jackett, who described the 28-year-old as his "best-ever signing."
Ambler told NewsAtDen: "There's no issue or major problem, it's just a normal negotiation and Jimmy wants to commit to staying at the club and we're delighted to try and put together a contract that he's happy with.
"Discussions have been very amicable and we hope to have it all resolved within the next week.
"Jimmy's focussed on playing Burnley and Bristol City at the moment, because we said we'd leave it until after these next two games. We'll revisit it after that."
