SHAUN Williams and Aiden O'Brien have been included in the Republic of Ireland provisional squad for their end-of-season international friendlies.
It is a first call-up for Lions midfielder Williams after his impressive season, including his winner against Aston Villa on the final day of the Championship last Sunday (above).
Williams, 31, felt he was due a call-up, telling Southwark News after being snubbed in March: “I was obviously disappointed not to be selected for the squad. I don’t really know what more you have to do to get a bit of recognition.
“It’s confusing and disappointing in terms of thinking of what you have to do to get into the squad. Obviously age may be a factor but if form is anything to go by I don’t see why I shouldn’t be involved.”
Martin O'Neill's side play Celtic (May 20), France (May 28) and the USA (June 2). The squad will be trimmed after the Celtic fixture, with further additions for the latter two games.
