MAHLON Romeo has been ruled out of Millwall’s fixture against Aston Villa on Sunday.
Romeo went off with a groin problem after 38 minutes of the 2-0 defeat to Middlesbrough last Saturday.
Lions boss Neil Harris revealed Romeo has been carrying the injury for a number of weeks.
Romeo only played three league games before December but became a key player in the Lions’ drive for an unlikely top-six finish after taking advantage of Conor McLaughlin’s suspension.
Norther Ireland international McLaughlin came on for Romeo at The Riverside Stadium and should start against Villa.
“Mahlon won’t be fit for the weekend,” Harris said. “He has had a groin strain for the last couple of weeks so he’ll get a chance to rest and recuperate.”
Millwall could still finish seventh, while Villa have already secured fourth spot ahead of the play-offs.
Steve Bruce could decide to rest key players, but Harris isn’t focused on how the opponents will line up next weekend.
Harris said: “It doesn’t matter what Steve does because he has such a talented squad. It’s going to be a strong team whichever players he puts out.”
