Behind Enemy Lines: Nottingham Forest

MILLWALL are on a 12-match unbeaten run, currently sitting four points off the play-offs.

The Lions will be want maximum points over the Easter weekend to keep hopes of an extended season alive, a realistic aim given current form – including six consecutive away league wins.

Neil Harris’ side met Nottingham Forest back in August, the first game of the Championship season. Millwall peppered the Forest goal and deserved all three points against the home side but came away with nothing.

Since then, the Nottingham side have changed manager, with former Middlesbrough chief Aitor Karanka taking over from Mark Warburton.

Forest are unbeaten in their last seven games.

Lucas Ball spoke to Reds fan Brian Flanagan this week.

Why do you support Forest?

Not quite sure but I presume I started following them around the time they won the First Division (1978) and European Cups (1979 & 1980). I would've been five or six and starting to watch football for the first time. The manager being called Brian was probably significant, too.

What’s been your favourite season following your side?

I'm probably too young to really remember the glory days of Europe so I'll opt for the 1994-95 season when we finished third in the Premier League.

Stan Collymore was borderline unplayable that season and the win over Man United at Old Trafford ranks as one of my favourite ever Forest victories.

Are things looking up under Aitor Karanka?

I think so. He had a slow start but appears to be getting the hang of things now. I feel he'll adopt a very different approach to next season, going for a steelier and defensively minded side.

That won't please everyone but it's probably the best way to try and get promoted.

Where will you be looking for Forest to finish now?

I'd imagine they're going to end up mid-table this season but I'd be optimistic about next year.

Who are Forest’s danger men likely to be on Friday?

Kieran Dowell has been superb this year on loan from Everton. He has looked a bit fatigued in recent weeks but he's an excellent player and it will be interesting to see if Forest try and sign him permanently in the summer.

Lee Tomlin has done well since joining on loan from Cardiff but Forest have struggled for goals recently and haven't scored in three games.

Matty Cash has been full of energy and has managed to survive the transition from Mark Warburton's team to Karanka's.

Which Millwall players, in your opinion, will be hard to stop?

I'll be interested in Shaun Williams and Aiden O'Brien from an Irish perspective. We badly need some new talent and I'll be hoping they can progress.

What’s your predicted starting XI and formation?

Karanka has picked the same team in most games recently. Costel Pantilimon has been a big addition in goals and has given the defence more confidence.

Finally, a score prediction?

I'd say Millwall 1-1 Nottingham Forest
