Wood pleased with debut Millwall goal but rues late miss

CHRIS Wood was thrilled to score on his full Millwall debut in the narrow defeat to Brighton – but believes he should have snatched a late equaliser.

Wood hauled the ten-man Lions back into the match in the 79th minute, making the scoreline 2-1 with his first goal for the club, and nearly added another in injury time.

Alan Dunne's deep cross fell to the West Brom loanee at the back post, but Albion keeper Tomasz Kuszczak made a crucial block to keep out the striker's shot.

"It's a difficult one to take," Wood said. "It was nice to get my first goal but it's tough to have not put the next chance away. It was a chance that I think I should be taking.

"It's something I'll look back on. He's made a great save so I can't be too disheartened. They were both on my left side and on my left foot.

"You always try and make the right connection with the ball, which I did, but he got in the way of it."

Had a good game Saturday, and looks a more dynamic player than I thought he was. Well taken goal and couldn't have done anything else with the chance at the end.
