Millwall aim to hit next target at Birmingham

MILLWALL players were given last weekend off – and were asking about their next opponents Birmingham as soon as they arrived at the training ground on Monday morning.

The Lions drew 1-1 with Cardiff on Friday night, which meant they had a rare weekend without a game.

Millwall are getting close to the points total they will need to consolidate their Championship status, as thoughts turn to breaking the 40-point barrier at St Andrews.

“We gave them two days off to see their families, obviously the northern lads want to get home to see their families,” boss Neil Harris said.

“They came in smiling and laughing after a good weekend and they were ready to work. The focus immediately becomes Birmingham and players were already asking me about personnel in their team, systems of play.

“There’s a buzz about the place and there has been a buzz about the place all season. It was dented last week for 24 hours [after the Rochdale defeat], but not derailed as we saw last Friday night.

“The response was outstanding. It was a good point, it was a very good performance by us.

“At the moment our next target is to get to 40 points. We’ll be aiming to do that against Birmingham next week in a big game.”

“We know we have to be consistent. We don’t get anywhere by looking to next season or the last game of the season. We don’t look at anything other than the next football match. That’s served us to get us to where we are now, 31 fixtures into the season. We won’t change our mindset.

“You saw in the first five minutes if we make errors and are not up to our standards we will get punished at this level.”
