Millwall's Twardek stars on Carlisle debut

CARLISLE manager Keith Curle was thrilled with Kris Twardek’s contribution after the Millwall youngster made his debut in the 1-0 win over Forest Green Rovers at the weekend.

Twardek joined Carlisle on loan last week and was put straight into the starting line-up up front alongside another new signing, Cole Stockton.

Twardek’s Lions team-mate James Brown played at right wing-back.

Twardek, 20, was voted man of the match for his performance and earned the praise of his boss (above).

"With Kris's personality and vibrancy, and if you speak to the lad, he gives you an air of confidence,” Curle told Carlisle’s official website.

"He knows what he's going to do, what he wants to do and how to do it.

"[Being named man of the match] will be a massive boost to his confidence. He's an international player that's come from a Championship club, and we said we want the Championship mentality and those Championship qualities that have enabled him to get the contract at Millwall.

"Bring those into our changing room, because we have got demands on the players.

"They both showed glimpses of what's to come. Cole Stockton is robust – a platform player as I call him.

"We want to play through the lines but when the ball does get spun, we want to be able to keep hold of the ball.

"[Stockton] got into some good positions. He will be a bit frustrated, some of the balls I expect him to get hold of bounced off. But there were the conditions to factor in and he has a good understanding of what's required.

"We have different options up there and extra competition. It's going take a period of time, probably two or three games and a few more training sessions, and they'll get that understanding, not only as a partnership but also the understanding from the other lads of what their strengths are."
