New Millwall signing 'really happy' to join Lions and could feature against Rochdale

JASON Shackell said he was “excited” to be at “a great club” after completing his loan move from Derby to Millwall on Thursday.

Shackell completed his medical and agreed terms with the Lions and could go straight into the side this weekend against Rochdale, with Neil Harris set to rest a number of first-team players.

Shackell has Premier League experience with Norwich City and Burnley.

“I’m really pleased, really happy,” Shackell told the club’s official website. “After speaking to the gaffer I’m excited to get going and be involved at a great club. They’ve got some good experienced players here already so hopefully I can add to that.

“I’m very vocal on the pitch. I have my opinions and will try to get across any messages that will help some of the younger lads. I’m excited to come in and hopefully help.”

Harris added: "I am really pleased Jason Shackell has come in.

"We have been chasing an experienced centre-half over the course of this transfer window.

"People might look at it and think, ‘that's unusual for us to go and sign a 34-year-old’, but I have done it because he is hungry. He is a really good one for us to bring in.

"I love what we are currently doing here at Millwall. We have a great group of lads and some good young kids coming through, but I felt like we maybe needed a bit more experience.

"You can never have too many experienced players in the team or in the squad to lead. I felt that in the back-line we maybe needed another voice and some guidance.

"If we want to keep progressing as a team, as a squad, as a club, then our standards have to keep right up there. Bringing in senior players who have been there and done it in the Premier League, as well as at the top of this division, can only guide us as a group.

"He hasn't played a lot of first-team football recently but he is fit and may well come in.

"It's a possibility that he may come into the team this weekend, yes."
