MILLWALL have confirmed the loan signing of Jason Shackell from Derby County.
Shackell had a medical on Thursday and could go straight into the Lions squad for their FA Cup fourth-round tie against Rochdale at The Den on Saturday.
Centre-back Shackell, 34, has only featured twice for Derby County this season, but has played eight times for their under-23 side in Premier League 2 Division One.
He started his career at Norwich, for whom he played over 100 times and gained Premier League experience, before spells at Wolves, Doncaster on loan and Barnsley.
He joined the Rams for the first time in 2011 but left after a season to link up with Eddie Howe at Burnley.
Shackell was Burnley captain when they won promotion under Sean Dyche in 2014, before he played in every Premier League game the following season.
He re-joined Derby for £3million in the summer of 2015, and went on to play 62 times scoring two goals. Millwall face Derby in the Championship next Tuesday evening, but the loan agreement is unlikely to include permission for the player to feature in that game.
Millwall boss Neil Harris has been on the lookout for defensive cover in the January transfer window, and Shackell will provide cover as well as competition for Shaun Hutchinson and Jake Cooper.
Shackell joins the Lions until the end of the season. He is out of contract this summer when he could make a permanent switch to south London.
