ANDRE Marriner, one of the Premier League's most senior referees, is to take charge of Millwall's Championship clash against Brighton on Saturday.

The 41-year-old has been handed his first Football League match of the season, having previously officiated three top-flight matches – Everton vs. Manchester United, Liverpool vs. Manchester City and QPR vs. Chelsea.

He was infamously in charge when Luis Suarez was accused of racially-abusing Patrice Evra in October 2011.

Marinner has not overseen a match involving the Lions since October 2008 – a 3-1 win over Leeds United at The Den.

The Midlands official was the man in the middle for Brighton's 6-1 FA Cup defeat at Liverpool last season.
