Millwall made deadline enquiry for Fleetwood star

MILLWALL made a late enquiry for Fleetwood Town forward Ashley Hunter last week – but were put off by the asking price.

Lions boss Neil Harris was looking to bolster his attack before the transfer window shut on Thursday night, and had identified Hunter as an option.

Millwall called Fleetwood last Wednesday, but ended their interest as they were not willing to match the League One side’s valuation of the player.

Hunter, 21, scored 11 goals in 55 games for Uwe Rosler’s Cod Army last season, including one at The Den in their 2-1 defeat to Millwall.

Hunter joined Fleetwood from non-league football and caught Harris’ eye as he sought more back-up for his first-choice strikers.

Harris did add to his squad after the transfer window shut, with Millwall confirming a deal for goalkeeper David Martin, who was eligible to sign as he was out of contract.

Harris has recruited eight players in total since the end of last season, but the enquiry for Hunter indicates he could re-visit the forward positions in his squad when the market re-opens in January.
