Millwall poised to win race for West Brom striker Wood

WEST Brom striker Chris Wood is set to complete his loan switch to Millwall within the next 24 hours.

The Lions are confident of having the 20-year-old signed up in time to face Cardiff City at The Den on Tuesday, having beaten off competition from Sheffield Wednesday for his services.

The New Zealand international, who has scored seven goals in his last six matches for the All Whites, travelled to South London on Sunday evening ahead of completing the deal.

The arrival of Wood brings an end to manager Kenny Jackett's search for a new striker that has been ongoing since Harry Kane returned to Tottenham at the end of last season.

Since joining the Baggies in 2009, Wood has spent time on loan at Barnsley, Brighton, Bristol City and Birmingham, for whom he scored a hat-trick against Millwall in September 2011.

Does Jackett have any faith in Batt? Wood is a good signing, proven at this level, but knowing Jackett, he will start Wood tomorrow and completely forget about Batt. Who hasn't been given a proper go to prove his worth after the injury..
