Millwall field enquiries from clubs for defender

MILLWALL are hoping to arrange a loan deal for defender Sid Nelson before the end of August.

Nelson, 21, played 14 times for Newport County last season and contributed to their remarkable escape from relegation from League Two.

If a club can’t be found for Nelson before August 31, he can still go out on loan, but under the rules only to the National League or below.

Nelson missed Millwall’s last two pre-season friendlies with a groin injury but is now back in full training.

“He needs game time and we’re working with him and his agent to try and find him a suitable club,” his manager Neil Harris explained.

“You want players to play at the best level possible. There have been enquiries for Sid.

“He went to Newport last season and what an experience that was for him, fighting at the foot of the table, fighting for people’s livelihoods, really.

“And he made some really good contributions starting and from the bench. He wasn’t in the team the last couple of games but it was an invaluable experience for him being there.

“He got a lot more minutes than he would have done in our team last season. It would be great for him to play in League One or League two, but we’re not that fussed.

“If we get past August, then the [National League] is also a really good level.

“It’s not always about the level, it’s about young players getting the minutes when they go out on loan.”
