Preview: Millwall vs. Granada

NEIL Harris will drop a big hint about his preferred starting XI to face Nottingham Forest when he picks his side against Granada on Saturday.

This is the last chance to fine-tune preparations in a match setting before the Lions’ first fixture of the Championship season at the City Ground a week today.

It’s also a last chance for a number of players to impress, and Harris has warned that those who won promotion last season are not necessarily guaranteed a first-team place.

Millwall haven't won in three pre-season friendlies in England, and failed to scored in their last two against Barnet and Stevenage.

Shaun Hutchinson wasn’t involved against Stevenage on Tuesday night, but he should be back in the starting line-up this weekend.

“It was good to get a full 90 minutes against Barnet and to work on the things we need to work on,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to Granada. I know they were relegated last season but they are a good side and it’ll be a good test.

“Hopefully we’ll be better off after that and ready for the start of the season.”

Granada came a little bit more to the attention of the wider football audience in England after appointing former Arsenal and England captain Tony Adams as temporary boss towards the end of last season.

A video clip of Adams in his first training session, with his comical hand movements and bizarre shuffles, was widely shared on social media. Adams’ tactical instructions didn’t work and he presided over seven defeats in seven games as Granada were relegated to Spain's Segunda Division.

Jose Louis Oltra took over this summer and Granada are slightly behind Millwall in their pre-season work with their 2017-18 campaign not starting until August 20 when they face Albacete at home.

Millwall, meanwhile, will debut their new away jersey – white top with blue trim, and navy shorts – on Saturday.

Possible Millwall team: 4-4-2: Archer; Romeo, Webster, Hutchinson, Craig; Wallace, Saville, Williams, O’Brien; Gregory, Morison.
