Millwall midfielder signs one-year extension

MILLWALL midfielder Shaun Williams has signed a one-year extension with the club.

The 30-year-old's deal was due to expire at the end of the season but having helped guide the Lions back to the Championship in their win over Bradford in the League One play-off final, he has put pen-to-paper on a further year in London.

Williams made 56 appearances in all competitions last season as Neil Harris' men also made it to the last eight of the FA Cup.

He scored scoring five goals, including a goal of the season candidate abasing Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup.

This will be Williams' second stint in the second tier with the Lions after he was signed in January 2014 under then boss Ian Holloway.

Williams told the club's official website: "Having such success last season made it in easy decision for me to sign another contract. I'm delighted to finally get it all sorted out.

"I have been here for three and a half years and have had a lot of ups and downs – but I've loved every minute of my time here.

"It's a whole new ball game for us," Williams added.

"You look at the teams, the budgets and the players that are in the division and it will be a different beast next season.

"Hopefully we can hold our own and do the club proud."

Lions boss Neil Harris added: "Shaun has has been fantastic for us over the last to years, he has got better and better under me."
