Millwall to assess defender after injury forces early exit

MILLWALL will check on Shaun Hutchinson today after he was forced off at half-time in the 1-0 defeat at Fleetwood on Monday.

Hutchinson has started Millwall’s last five games – his second-longest run of consecutive starts in an injury-hit season – but was replaced with Jake Cooper at Highbury Stadium.

Lions boss Neil Harris revealed it was a precaution to take the centre-back off early, but he could now be a doubt for the last home clash of the League One season, against Oxford United on Saturday.

“Hutch got a whack on his ribs and was struggling,” Harris said. “I didn’t want to take any risks, I wanted to make the substitution at half-time.

“I didn’t want to upset the group halfway through the second half. We’ll have to see how he presents [Tuesday].”

Don't think it makes a lot of difference if hutch is fit to play or not..mainly cos Cooper has had a rest and is a handful for any forward

Haven't seen a more injury prone player down the den for a long long time no wonder Fulham got rid of him I hope millwall have put in motion the signing of cooper he has the ability to become the best centre back we've had for a while. Let's hope craig stays injured as well

We've now got 3 very good centre halves at Millwall, 2 excellent goalies and 2 quality right backs.
The forward line is recognised by all as being the best in the division. I think we need to be looking at the left back position and midfield for new players and back-ups as there is where we're the weakest. If Fred is on his toes he needs replacing with a permanent signing. Abdou is pondering over a new contract as this will give him a testimonial if he signs it. If I was him, I'd be looking elsewhere as any sign-on fee he gets will be more than his testimonial game IMO and he'll play a lot more games than he will at Millwall. We need a Hurlock or Briley in League one to get out of this division and with the unexpected FA cup money we should be looking to sign on a few in the summer, the quality of which will be determined by what division we are in. Harris did a very good job with that clear-out when he was given the manager's job so he obviously knows a sack of s*** when he sees it and we had quite a lot back then.

The chairman is bailing us out every year so even with the fa cup money there will only be freebie signings unless we go up. The fa cup run shows we are more than capable of going up through the play offs . It's down to harris to get them fired up the defence is sound but are always going to concede eventually if we don't put our chances away can't believe o'brien is our only option for morison or gregory need a lump to bag people about and get on the end of Wallace and fergursons crosses

If Hutchinson is out to the end of the season that's fine , Cooper is a far better replacement, as SDD says Hutchinson this season has been somewhat of a sick note, however come the end of the season whether it be in 2 games time or hopefully 5 , we will have a problem as I cant see us holding onto Cooper & cant afford to be carrying the likes of Hutchinson who only play a few times during the season.

Smith has to be better than having no striker on the bench , I'm sure he would of put away some of them sitters we've been missing in a lot of games.

I can't see us holding on to Cooper, unless we go up and even then it will be hard. So we need Hutch. I know he was struggling with injuries at start of season but has he been that prone since? Missed run of games because NH was picking Cooper. Rib injury is one of those knocks anyone can get - not the kind of recurring injury that usually signifies a sick note player. And he has been pretty strong when he plays. Whether he is championship material remains to be seen - along with a lot of the squad.
