Sheffield United defender should have seen red – Millwall boss

MILLWALL boss Neil Harris thought referee Jeremy Simpson could have taken more severe action against Sheffield United defender Jake Wright on Tuesday night.

Wright was shown only a yellow card after taking out Jed Wallace in the 31st minute. It appeared a cynical intervention with Wallace set to collect the ball in the box after he had skipped past the defender, and a dangerous one as he was late and high on the Millwall midfielder.

Sheffield United were already a goal up by then through Jack O'Connell's header, and won 2-0 after Kieron Freeman added a second 10 minutes into the second half.

Asked if he felt Simpson should have sent off the Blades defender, Harris said: “I did.

He added: generic lexapro name “Wrighty is a great lad and a really good player. But as much as you don’t want to see red cards, you’re talking about violent conduct on a football pitch. If he forearm-smashes him it’s a red card. What’s the difference between that and taking him out with a volley?

“So, professional tackle? Yes, by a senior player. Referee getting it wrong? Without a shadow of a doubt.

“There were big moments and that was one. At the other end Lee Gregory’s one-on-one chance is a huge moment, as was Shaun Williams’ chance from 10 yards.

“That was the difference between the sides. They took their chances at key moments and we didn’t.”
