KENNY Jackett says that Tamika Mkandawire is still several weeks away from returning to first-team action – despite playing 90 minutes for the U21 side last week.

Mkandawire, who was voted the fans' Player of the Year at the end of the 2010-11 season, has not featured for the Lions since undergoing knee surgery last November.

The 29-year-old came through unscathed in a development fixture against Barnet last week, but boss Jackett says the former Leyton Orient defender will not be involved against Hull City on Saturday.

He told Lions Live: "It's good to see Tam back. He played in the U21 game last week and his knee is fine. He's short of match fitness so he needs games and he needs time.

"I wouldn't put a timeframe on when he'll be back in the first-team fold, but he is in full training. It's a footballing issue because he needs confidence.

"He's one of the most diligent professionals I've ever worked with. He won't be involved at Hull, it will certainly be longer than that."
