DAVID Forde kept successive clean sheets as Portsmouth recorded two 4-0 wins to give their promotion chances a huge boost.
Pompey defeated Colchester on Saturday before repeating the trick by slamming four past Grimsby at Fratton Park on Tuesday night.
Paul Cook’s side are in the last automatic promotion slot, six points ahead of Carlisle with nine League Two games remaining.
Elsewhere, Gregg Wylde played 56 minutes for Northampton on Saturday as Matthew Taylor scored an 86th-minute penalty to give Justin Edinburgh’s side a 1-0 win at AFC Wimbledon. Wylde was absent from the Cobbler’s squad on Tuesday night as they defeated Port Vale 2-1.
Sid Nelson was in the centre of Newport’s defence and helped his side climb off the foot of the League Two table with a clean sheet in a 1-0 win at Morecambe. It was Newport’s second successive win since they sacked Graham Westley. Nelson also played as they grabbed a 2-1 victory at Crewe on Saturday. Newport are still nine points from safety with 10 games left.
Also at the weekend, Alfie Pavey made his debut as an 83rd-minute substitute for Dartford in their National League South 1-1 draw at Concord Rangers.
In the National League, Kyron Farrell came on as an 82nd-minute replacement for his Millwall team-mate Kris Twardek in Braintree Town’s 3-3 draw at Solihull Moors.
