Millwall winger admits he's playing for his future

JED Wallace says he has had no contact from Wolves since he joined Millwall on loan in January, and conceded he is playing for his future away from the Championship club.

It is Wallace’s second loan spell at Millwall, but the circumstances are different to a year ago when Kenny Jackett sent him out to get regular first-team football before recalling him and putting straight back into the side.

Jackett left in the summer before Wolves appointed Walter Zenga and then his replacement Paul Lambert.

Lambert picked Wallace only once, and Wolves also signed Portuguese international wingers Hélder Costa and Ivan Cavaleiro.

Wallace has an option to make his move to Millwall permanent as he prepares to leave Molineux in the summer.

Asked if Wolves have been monitoring his Lions form, he admitted: “I don’t imagine it’s registering. I’ve not had any dialogue with anyone. I’m not exactly looking at my phone waiting for someone to call me.

“I came here last year when Kenny was the manager of Wolves to get fitness and get my confidence back and to go back and make an impact.

“That didn’t happen, via injuries and a little bit of bad luck along the way. This year I’ve come to play for a future away from Wolves. The geezers on the wings, one is £13million and one is £7million. That’s where you’re at.”

The two clubs could look to negotiate a permanent deal at the end of this season, but Wallace will leave that to others to discuss.

“I don’t really look to get involved with the people that wear suits, they sort all that out for me,” he said. “I’m just playing and trying to help the squad to get promoted.

“I’d like to think it could get done, there is an option to do it. But I’m not really too arsed about all that, to be honest.

“For me it’s about playing and getting to where we need to get. That’s the wonderful thing about football, others take care of things off the pitch and I take care of things on it.”
