SHANE Lowry has revealed that he still has his heart set on an international career with Australia – despite going two years without receiving a call up.

The 23-year-old says he wants to follow in the footsteps of former Lions stars Tim Cahill, Lucas Neill and Kevin Muscat, who have all featured for the Soceroos over the past decade.

And while Lowry hasn't been included in an Australia squad since August 2010, the former Aston Villa trainee says he is as determined as ever to forge an international career.

"There's a great tradition of Australians at this club and if it can lead me to where it has led the likes of Lucas and Tim then that would be a dream," he told SBS.

"All three are well remembered and respected at the club and people still talk about them. The way I play seems to suit the club. I am playing every week and that's been good for me.

"All I can do now is focus on Millwall and hope that I can get noticed at some stage. But I definitely haven't given up hope and I'm going to keep plugging away and my chance may come one day."
