Millwall front pair could get February rest

MILLWALL boss Neil Harris could decide to rest Steve Morison and Lee Gregory for a game during February.

Morison has played in 31 out of Millwall’s 39 games this season, averaging almost a goal every two games, including the second in the 2-0 win over Coventry last Saturday. The eight games he missed were through injury.

Gregory has featured 29 times after injury problems restricted his involvement earlier in the season. He was taken off in the second half at the Ricoh Arena with Fred Onyedinma coming on to partner Morison.

Harris has the option of playing Onyedinma or Aiden O’Brien up front if he rests either of his first-choice front pair during a month when Millwall play eight games.

Harry Smith, who has scored six goals in eight game this season, will also come into contention for a place in the side.

“Most of the players will need a rest at some stage during February,” Harris said. “We’ve certainly got to be mindful of that.

“The fact that Lee and Steve were raring to go again on Saturday for a third game in six days was really positive.

“Both played really well at the weekend. Steve got better as the game went on, he got stronger which is a real plus for a 33-year-old.

“I took Lee off to protect him a little bit from overdoing it, he had worked their backline so hard.

“But there will be a stage over the next few weeks when one if not both will need a rest. But it has to be one game at a time, you can’t look too far down the line.”
