Millwall loan watch: Nelson helps Newport fight

KRIS Twardek started and Kyron Farrell came off the bench as Braintree Town were held to a scoreless draw at home against Dulwich Hamlet in the third round of the Buildbase FA Trophy.

Braintree were the batter side before the break and went close through Michael Cheek and Jack Midson, but Isthmian League Premier Division Hamlet dominated the second half.

Ashley Carew went close to giving Hamlet the lead when his shot struck the post, before Braintree goalkeeper Sam Beasant pulled off a superb stop late on to deny Ibra Sekajja and prevent a shock. The replay is on Tuesday evening.

In League Two at the weekend, David Forde couldn’t prevent Portsmouth slipping to a 1-0 defeat at Wycombe, a result that saw Pompey slip to seventh in the table.

Sid Nelson played his fifth game for Newport County as their resurgence continued with a 1-1 draw at Cheltenham thanks to Jaanai Gordon’s 93rd-minute equaliser.

Newport are now just three points off safety in League Two.
