Midfielder signs long-term Millwall deal

BEN Thompson said he is “over the moon” after committing his long-term future to Millwall.

Midfielder Thompson, 21, has signed a deal until the summer of 2020.

He only signed his last contract in December 2015 but Lions boss Neil Harris has moved the reward the player for his outstanding form this season.

Thompson joined Millwall’s academy when he was 16 and has made 70 first-team appearances.

He made his debut under Ian Holloway when he came on as a substitute in a 2-0 League Cup defeat to Southampton in August 2014, before Harris gave him his league debut a year later against Coventry.

Thompson is the latest young player to commit to the Lions long term, with Jordan Archer, Mahlon Romeo and Aiden O’Brien all tied to the club until June 2019.

“I'm over the moon,” Thompson told Millwall's official website. “Talks have been going on for a few weeks and I'm glad it's finally sorted.

“I've been concentrating on my football and letting my agent and the club sort it out but I'm glad it's done.

“I love it here. I love playing here. It's a great club and a great place to play your football. Long may it continue.”
