Millwall defender could be midfield option

MAHLON Romeo can be another midfield option for Millwall, his boss Neil Harris believes.

Romeo has played at right-back since breaking into the Lions’ first team last February, and has also featured in the centre of defence for his international side, Antigua & Barbuda.

Twenty-one-year-old Romeo lost his place in the Millwall team in December, with Harris preferring Shaun Cummings for the last six games.

Romeo played for the U23s in their 3-0 win over Queens Park Rangers in the Professional Development League on Monday, and Harris feels the spell out of the first team has benefited him.

He could also be used further up the pitch if required this season.

“Mahlon has played on the right wing for the U23s and in central midfield, he’s got various strings to his bow,” Harris said on Tuesday.

“Mahlon has looked a lot sharper in the last seven days in training. Everyone will agree he looked a tired player before Christmas, mentally and physically.

“I thought the Christmas period was a perfect time to take him out of the team and let him recover without the stress of playing ninety minutes, ninety minutes every week.

“Shaun has come in and done really well so it’s tough for Mahlon to get back in.

“But there are options for Mahlon to play in a number of different positions.”
